August 25, Petersburg; Sol-Gel Conference Most notably aerogels are known for their extreme low densities which range from 0. But even at a density of 0. As aerogel has such diverse chemical and physical properties, it is no surprise that it also has a wide range of applications.
Sol–gel alumina coating on quartz substrate for environmental protection
In textile applications, the precursor-synthesized sol-gels along with functional chemicals can be deposited onto textile fabrics in one step by rolling, padding, dip-coating, spraying or spin coating. These surface properties are discussed, describing the history, basic chemistry, factors affecting the sol-gel synthesis, progress in sol-gel technology along with various parameters controlling sol-gel technology. Textile wet processing consists of three important processes, namely pretreatment, coloration dyeing or printing and finishing [ 1 , 2 ]. Pretreatment i. After coloration, the textiles are subjected to the finishing process according to the end-use or consumer requirements [ 1 , 2 , 5 , 6 ]. As mentioned, the finishing process is the last chance to provide added value [ 7 ]. Generally, chemical finishing involves the addition of different chemicals based on the intended textile end-use [ 7 ].
Danks a , S. Hall b and Z. E-mail: z. In fact, it is perhaps better defined more broadly as covering the synthesis of solid materials such as metal oxides from solution-state precursors. These can include metal alkoxides that crosslink to form metal—oxane gels, but also metal ion—chelate complexes or organic polymer gels containing metal species. What is important across all of these examples is how the choice of precursor can have a significant impact on the structure and composition of the solid product.
